Winter/Holidy Unit 10/24/12-12/19/12

Objectives:
    TSWBAT.....recognize and perform various rhythm patterns, recognize and continue to develop good tone quality, understand and perform written music symbols appropriate to their instrument, perform music representative of many time periods and styles (specifically Winter Holiday orientated), continue to demonstrate proper playing position and posture, demonstrate correct bowing and fingering techniques, begin to demonstrate a variet of major scales and arpeggios, demonstrate accurate pitch discrimination, and demonstrate a basic understanding of natural harmonics.


I CAN:
  • Play a variety of notes and rests (quarter, eighth, sixteenth, whole, half, etc.)
  • Play dynamics (louds and softs)
  • Play music of different styles
  • Play scales and arpeggios
  • Sit up tall and keep my arm in proper position while playing
  • Play harmonics on all four strings

Essential Skills to be mastered:
   Students will be able to perform a 20-30 minute performance consisting of music of the Winter/Holiday genre.  They will work on a variety of music techniques to understand and apply how to perform the music.

Fall/Halloween Unit 8/15/12-10/23/12

Objectives:
    TSWBAT.....apply tuning techniques to his/her own instrument, recognize and perform various rhythm patterns, recognize and start to understand time signatures, understand and perform written music symbols appropriate to their instrument, perform music representative of many time periods and styles (specifically Halloween orientated), Develop an appreciation and discrimination for good performance standards, begin to demonstrate proper playing position and posture, demonstrate correct bowing and fingering techniques, and start to demonstrate correct performance of articulation

I CAN:

  • Tune my own instrument 
  • Name every note on my instruments clef
  • Play a variety of notes and rests (quarter, eighth, sixteenth, whole, half, etc.)
  • Play dynamics (louds and softs)
  • Play music of different styles
  • Sit up tall and keep my arm in proper position while playing
  • Understand how to behave during a performnace
  • Understand and play the difference between a sharp, natural, or flat note

Essential Skills to be mastered:
   Students will be able to perform a 20-30 minute performance consisting of music of the Fall/Halloween genre.  They will work on a variety of music techniques to understand and apply how to perform the music.
